Small Business Spotlight (June 22nd) - Wise Health Foundation
Welcome to Wise Health Foundation.
My name is Lori Sherwood and I am the executive director of Wise Health Foundation.
As our mission states, Wise Health Foundation works cooperatively with Wise Health System to support its mission and vision while caring compassionately for the community. We would not be able to fulfill this mission without our generous donors and our annual fundraisers.
The Wise Health Foundation is a not-for-profit organization developed to raise funds on behalf of Wise Health System. Funds are raised through several different ways, including:
Community donations
Fundraising efforts
Grant opportunities
Employee support
We process gifts of all sizes and welcome gifts designated for specific purposes. Funds are used to purchase equipment and supplies used to support WHS patients and their families.
How many years have you been in business?
I’ve worked for Wise Health System for 15 months as the Wise Health Foundation Director. Wise Health Foundation, established in 2002 is a not-for-profit organization developed to raise funds on behalf of Wise Health System and Mary’s Gift. Mary’s Gift provides free mammography services to eligible Wise County residents.
What motivates you?
Making a difference in the healthcare in our community and surrounding areas motivates me. I firmly believe Mary’s Gift is making a difference in women’s health. In 2020, Mary’s Gift was able to provide 131 recipients (7 testing positive for breast cancer) free mammography services.
As someone doing business in Decatur/Wise County, how does the Chamber help you?
Being a member of the chamber has helped me network at chamber events and through chamber eblasts about Wise Health Foundation, Mary’s Gift and the multiple fundraising efforts that benefit our community and Wise Health System.
What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know?
Mary’s Gift provides free mammography services to men and women in Wise County. Services include 3D mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, and breast biopsies.
Do you have any advice for new business owners?
I highly encourage all new businesses moving into the area to join and be active in the chamber.
When you’re not working, where in Decatur/Wise County do you like to spend your time?
I have 3 precious grandchildren that I love to do things, with, I lead an annual mission trip to Paraguay hosting Vacation Bible schools for 2 churches, we usually have a team of 18 that goes. I also love to travel to new places.
