Chamber Business of the Week - ( June 23 ) Wise County Committee on Aging
Wise County Committee on Aging, Inc., Meals on Wheels, is a non-profit 501-(C)(3) group which provides hot, nourishing meals to 125+ senior citizens who are unable to prepare meals for themselves or who do not have others to do so for them. More Seniors are being added to the program every month as the number of Seniors with needs grows daily. The daily contact with our VOLUNTEERS, as well as the nutritious meals, allow frail, homebound seniors to remain in their own homes where they can maintain their independence. For some of the clients, the daily well-check and the love and concern shared by our VOLUNTEERS are the only contacts they have with the rest of the world.
We provide health and nutritional information through our monthly newsletter, and we assist them with referrals for any other services they may need. By providing them a copy of the local newspaper, our group helps keep them connected to the rest of the community in which they live..
On Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, our group also provides transportation for clients to the doctor's office, pharmacy, grocery store, beauty shop, etc. to meet their individual needs.
Won't you join us in providing these important services to our most deserving citizens?
We need you!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
There are many ways you can serve our community through the Wise County Committee on Aging, Inc.
Here are the top 10 ways.
1. Volunteer to be a driver! We need help with the delivery of meals. It could be as little as 2 to 3 hours a week or a month. If we had more drivers, using their own vehicles, we could have more routes and serve more clients that need our help.
2. Serve as a member of the Board of Directors
3. Assist in fundraising activities so that we can build new kitchen facilities.
4. Assist in presentations to various clubs, churches, and organizations
5. Promote our group at your workplace or church
6. Provide special gifts or services to our clients, e.g., goodie bags, flowers, etc.
7. Adopt a Senior for $150 per month (or donate any amount)
8. Donate Money or items for the new kitchen so we can prepare our own food for the clients.
9. Donate publicity spots/time to help promote our cause.
10. Donate a Working vehicle for the Drivers to use to deliver meals.
