Small Business Spotlight - Terry Everett - DATCU
How many years have you been in business?
I have worked for DATCU Credit Union for 37 years. Loved every day!
What motivates you?
The fact that I work for an organization that provides great service and products to our members. Our motto is “People Helping People”. I’m most proud that DATCU sees the value in giving back to the schools, non-profit organizations and communities we serve.
As someone doing business in Decatur/Wise County, how does the Chamber help you? Getting involved with your local chamber is a great way to keep up with the activities planned that bring new people into your service area. The chamber luncheons, activities and mixers are a great way to introduce yourself, your business to future customers. You get out of the Chamber what you put into it.
What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know?Credit Unions are different from banks in that we are not-for-profit financial cooperatives. Our profits are returned to our members in the way of less fees, lower loan rates and higher dividends. We are not for just teachers anymore.
Do you have any advice for new business owners? Customer service is paramount. Hire the best people you can to promote your business. Your employees are a reflection on you.
When you’re not working, where in Decatur/Wise County do you like to spend your time?
I love working in my yard, playing bad golf and of course entertaining my precious grandson, Wyatt.
